Please also read the enclosed Stella/txt file as it covers all the standard
Stella stuff. This file contains only Acorn Risc OS specific stuff.

NEW to the port:

Pre-Risc PC support - yes you can finally run it on old machines
A nice little front end :
Shows the setup from the properties files
Allows you to manually edit the setup
An ickle bit more speed due to a faster plotter.

Introduction
------------

This is a port of a very very good Atari 2600 emulator called Stella. It is
written purely in C++, but manages over 60fps on a StrongARM - however it
is speed throttled and could manage more... So much respect to Bradford W. Mott
for making such a portable & fast emulator.

How do I use it ?
-----------------

Easy - just download a game from the internet there are various good sites
around and few companies actually care what happens with these roms since they
are in many cases over 10 years old and noone is really going to buy them in
this day and age.

Once you have some ROMS you can run them by setting the filetype to C26Game and
double clicking on the file. This loads the ROM.

It is fairly intuitive to use...

The following keys are used:

  [Mouse] Paddle for paddle games
  [Select] Fire for paddle games

  [q] Quit

  [p] Pause

  [s] Select Game
  [r] Game Reset
  [c] Color television
  [b] Black and white television

  [1] Left player difficulty B
  [2] Left player difficulty A
  [3] Right player difficulty B
  [4] Right player difficulty A

  [Up Arrow] Left joystick up
  [Down Arrow] Left joystick down
  [Left Arrow] Left joystick left
  [Right Arrow] Left joystick right
  [Return] Left joystick fire button

  [y] Right joystick up
  [h] Right joystick down
  [g] Right joystick left
  [l] Right joystick right
  [z] Right joystick fire button

As you will note there is no frontend... this will arrive in due course as will
sound support. However the emulator is configurable via the stellapro file in
the !Stella directory. Please read the Stella/txt document for information. There are RTF, PDF and Word versions of the files included. The PDF version is read very well by !Pdf. The RTF version can be read by many Acorn DTP packages and TechWriter/EasiWriter should be able to read the Word file. Note the spelling mistake that is carried through... AcronOS (hmm.. should that be Acorn OS).

There are 2 extra variables in the Acorn distribution :

Display.SWidth
Display.SHeight

These will (in future) allow you to set resolution for the system and also allow
you to have different resolutions for each game. Currently the resolution is
fixed at 320 by 256.

*FAQ*
-----

Why are my Roms images not working ?
-------------------

Try downloading them again. If there is still no joy. Send the image to
Bradford Mott and see if he can find a reason.

Where's the sound ?
-------------------

This is being worked on... This will arrive at some point I am sorting out
how to do it nicely.

Do I need a special screen mode ?
---------------------------------

Nope the emulator runs happily in a 320 by 256 mode as the screen fits nicely.

Will you get it to run in the desktop ?
---------------------------------------

This will be coming *eventually*!

Will you be porting any other emulators ?
-----------------------------------------

Are these enough ???

Stella
Master Gear
ColEm
fMsx
Atari 800
Come Back 64
Replay +
ArcNes -> although not strictly a port anymore
and various others
